Discover the Divine: A Spiritual Sojourn to Dhari Devi Temple with Lekhwar Hospitality
Nestled along the serene banks of the Alaknanda River in
lies a sacred sanctuary shrouded in legend, mystique, and spiritual power — the Dhari Devi Temple. Revered as the guardian deity of Uttarakhand, Goddess Dhari Devi is believed to protect the Char Dham pilgrimage routes and watch over the people of the Garhwal region. A visit here is not just a journey of faith, but an immersion into the cultural and spiritual soul of the Himalayas.
At Lekhwar Hospitality, we believe in curating experiences that blend comfort with culture, and spirituality with serenity. A visit to Dhari Devi Temple is one such unforgettable experience we offer our guests — a peaceful escape that connects you to something larger than life.
The Legend of Dhari Devi
According to folklore, the upper part of the idol of Goddess Dhari Devi mysteriously appeared at this very spot centuries ago after a devastating flood. Local villagers heard cries from the river and upon investigation, discovered the idol lodged against a rock. Since then, it has been worshipped as the manifestation of Shakti (divine feminine power). Intriguingly, the lower half of the idol is enshrined in the Kalimath Temple, another powerful Shakti Peeth.
The temple is unique not only in its spiritual significance but also because the idol is said to change facial expressions — a rare phenomenon witnessed by devotees over time.
A Journey to Remember
Located about 17 km from Srinagar (Uttrakhand) on the way to Rudraprayag, the Dhari Devi Temple sits atop a raised platform in the middle of the river, connected by a short bridge. The gurgling waters of the Alaknanda and the chants of “Jai Ma Dhari” create a serene atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.
For nature lovers and photography enthusiasts, the surrounding hills, river views, and temple architecture provide stunning frames and peaceful corners to soak in the surroundings.
